Wildebeest Blue
The Blue Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus) is a large ungulate mammal of the Bovid family and one of two species of wildebeest. It grows to 1.5m (145cm) shoulder height, up to 2.5m (245cm) in length and attains a body mass of up to 274kgs (600lbs).
The male is highly territorial using scent markings and other devices to protect his domain. He has large horns extending outward to the side, curving upwards and in and can measure up to 90cm, whilst the female horns is about half the size,the charcoal grey coat has a silvery sheen, with a thick black mane and shaggy beard accentuating the ungainly heavy front appearance and a long black face, high set eyes creating a doleful expression.
The Blue Wildebeast range the open plains, bushveld and dry woodlands of Southern and East Africa, realising a life span in excess of twenty years.
